In recent years, Macs have become more and more affordable. Cheaper entry points, more memory and storage per dollar, and the introduction of the MacBook Neo. For the first time, Apple began to become one of the best values on the market.

Unfortunately, Apple just raised its prices drastically due to the ongoing memory shortage. Macs aren’t as attractive as they were a few months ago, that said, there are still some decent deals out there – and if you need a new computer, I’d still say that today’s Macs are good value against the rest of the computing market.

MacBook Air

Until the launch of the MacBook Neo, the MacBook Air represented the entry point for Apple’s laptop lineup. Despite MacBook Neo making its value proposition slightly questionable, I’d still say the MacBook Air is a great laptop if you want a better experience without needing something premium.

MagSafe, a P3 color display, center stage on the webcam, and more battery life are just some of the highlights with MacBook Air. It also comes with a 15-inch size variant, unlike the MacBook Neo which only offers 13-inch.

MacBook Neo

This product doesn’t need a long explanation – MacBook Neo is Apple’s first affordable MacBook, which comes in at just $699.

It has some compromises compared to the aforementioned MacBook Air, but it’s still incredibly good for the price. Build quality, display sharpness, and the macOS experience are all essentially uncompromised. Sure, you have to deal with a slower A18 Pro chip (although trust me, it’s no sleep), fewer ports, and 8GB of memory, but it’s perfectly reasonable for the price. It also comes in fun colors like citrus, blush, and indigo.

There are no notable retail discounts on MacBook Neo at the moment, although Apple is offering them refurbished for $100-120 off retail price. Apple refurbished offers the same 1 year warranty and a like new experience, with every major component replaced. You won’t find any scuffs or battery degradation.

MacBook Pro

At the top of the lineup is MacBook Pro. You get the best of the best, although there is one big caveat. Apple will redesign the high-end variants of the MacBook Pro later this year with OLED, touchscreens and thinner designs.

This redesign will only debut with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chip, though — so if you’re someone who buys the base model with the M5 chip, you’re still in the clear to buy a new MacBook today. The same goes if you don’t care about the redesign at all, because M5 Pro and M5 Max are still incredibly new chips.
