Today is a big Motorola day for us. We first shared the specifications of Motorola’s upcoming wide-folding phone, the company’s first such phone, which Motorola has already teased. After that, we have provided you with some mockups of the device based on the information we have.
Here’s how Motorola’s upcoming wide-folder compares to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, design-wise
With that in mind, we also wanted to compare this phone with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Although we still don’t have official images of Motorola’s foldable, the above mockups have been created based on the sketches we’ve leaked, specifications we’ve provided, and designs from the company’s latest flagship phones, the Motorola Razr Fold and Signature 27.
Now, if you look at the mockups throughout the article, you’ll see a bunch of them created specifically for this comparison. They compare Motorola’s upcoming wide foldable with the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Here are the two phones side by side
In the gallery below, you can see how the two phones look side by side. Considering we have the exact dimensions of Motorola’s upcoming wide-folding phone, this represents the actual difference in size.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures (H x W x D) 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.5 mm when unfolded, and 123.9 x 81.9 x 9.7 mm when unfolded. The phone also weighs 201 grams, in case you were wondering.
Motorola’s first wide foldable, on the other hand, will measure 110 x 149 x 5.8 mm when unfolded, and 110 x 76 x 12.6 mm when unfolded. The device will weigh 215 grams, so a little heavier, but still much lighter than, for example, the Apple iPhone Duo. Note that Motorola’s wide foldable will also have a slightly larger battery.
Motorola’s handset will be particularly thick
The thing is that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a big advantage in terms of thickness. The device is only 9.7 mm thick when unfolded, and 4.5 mm when unfolded. Motorola’s handset will measure 12.6mm when folded and 5.8mm when unfolded. In other words, this wide folding bar from Motorola will be even thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from 2024, before Samsung considerably thinned its folding bar.

Here’s a great way to show you the size difference
Samsung’s handset also has notably sharper corners than Motorola’s will offer, as you can clearly see in the provided images. Various camera settings are also included on the back. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 includes two vertically aligned cameras that protrude directly from the back plate. Motorola’s handset, known internally as the ‘razr flex’ (not its final name), includes a horizontal camera bar at the top of the back, with two cameras on the inside.
