The recent update for the month of September, which was sent to Pixel devices earlier this month, is reported to have a lock screen issue for some users. The update doesn’t affect all Pixel device owners, but those who are affected are reporting problems unlocking the lock screen when trying to enter patterns or PIN numbers.
The Pixel phones have had their fair share of bugs this year. Back in early September, people started reporting issues with the Pixel 11 having trouble staying connected to Wi-Fi. Back in July, there were a series of reported problems with the battery draining too quickly, which Google said was fixed in a late July update, despite users continuing to report the problem.
All the way back in May there were problems with the eSIM. Many of the issues that have appeared for Pixel owners since the beginning of the year have reportedly been fixed with Android 17 Beta 4.1, although this does not address all bugs as some have been fixed and others are still being worked on. With this latest error, people simply have trouble unlocking their devices.
A new pixel bug causes problems with the lock screen
According to a report by Phone Arena, some users of Pixel phones are unable to unlock their device as the error causes an immediate rejection of the unlocking method. This is said to be affecting Pixel 10 Pro XL users and at least one user has reported the problem on a Pixel 8a. There is no mention of other Pixel device models so far.
According to a user with the issue, the bug caused an error in unlocking after entering a digit of the PIN. Another said that the pattern lock method would reset the pattern after only two dots were connected. The user then mentions that a factory reset was apparently the only thing that let them get around this issue. Currently, this issue does not seem to be recognized by Google, and there is currently no official fix for it.
