Freedom Mobile has changed its plans in Manitoba to continue to resemble those in its other three markets: Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
The move comes about a year after parent company Quebecor announced it was buying wireless spectrum in Manitoba to lay the groundwork for its own network. These new plans come close to the Freedom Network going online in the province, but at the time of writing Freedom has yet to confirm this Mobile syrup.
Previously, it used other carrier networks in Manitoba and essentially operated as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). That meant paying fixed rates to use other networks. In 2024, Freedom blamed those rates for its decision to “suspend the launch of data-rich plans in Manitoba.”
However, here is the current state of freedom plans in Manitoba:
- $35/35GB Canada/US/Mexico + 1GB Roam Beyond data
- New: $40/125GB Canada/US/Mexico + 5GB Roam Beyond data
- New: $45/175GB Canada/US/Mexico + 10GB Roam Beyond data
- New: $55/250GB Canada/US/Mexico + 10GB Roam Beyond data
- New: $65/250GB Canada/US/Mexico + 20GB Roam Beyond data
- $75/250GB Canada/US/Mexico + 30GB Roam Beyond data
- $85/250GB Canada/US/Mexico + 40GB Roam Beyond data
- $95/250GB Canada/US/Mexico + 50GB Roam Beyond data
I should also mention that every plan comes with unlimited talk/text in Canada and 120+ destinations. All plans also include a Digital Discount, a $5/mo running credit for automatic payments.
Now, this new plan structure is much more in line with what Freedom offers elsewhere. There are some differences compared to Ontario: notably, the $40/70GB plan is not there.
Interestingly, 5G+ is still missing in the province; instead, customers receive 4G LTE data. To add some more salt in the wound, Freedom offers 5G and 5G+ data in its other two markets.
This also sees the end of the 60GB option that Freedom used to roll out in Manitoba.
