How Sony’s glasses-free 3D display works
The ELF-MN1 has a 6-inch LCD with a pixel density of 403ppi, which Sony has described as the highest among its spatial reality displays as of October 28, 2026.
The screen uses eye tracking to detect the viewer’s position and adjust the stereoscopic image accordingly. By presenting different perspectives to each eye, it creates the appearance of depth without requiring glasses or headphones.
An infrared sensor helps the system detect eye positions in dark environments. Sony also uses a two-viewpoint display system with technology meant to reduce crosstalk, which occurs when images meant for separate eyes interfere with each other.
These features are designed to improve image clarity and maintain the 3D effect as the viewer changes position.
The display is intended for one viewer at a time, so it is better suited to a personal desk than a shared viewing environment.
Shows anime characters without physical figures
The ELF-MN1 supports Gugenka’s HoloModels digital figure service, which offers officially licensed anime characters as 3D collectibles. Compatible figures can appear on the Sony display without requiring a physical model or special shelf space for each character.
For collectors, the appeal is the ability to change the displayed character without rearranging a collection. The available selection depends on the supported figures in the service’s content library.

The display could also be of interest to people who use digital avatars or create 3D artwork. Instead of keeping these creations in an application on a phone or computer, compatible content can appear on a separate desktop screen.
However, not every downloaded 3D model or game character will work automatically. The ELF-MN1 requires compatible applications and supported content, so software availability is an important consideration before purchase.
A compact display for desks and shelves
Sony has given the ELF-MN1 a simple attachment with a transparent acrylic stand. The design reduces the visual boundary between the screen and the surface below, helping the displayed content integrate into its surroundings.
The device measures approximately 77 × 154 × 94.5 mm (width × height × depth). It weighs about 300 grams without accessories, or 350 grams with accessories. Its compact dimensions make it easier to fit on a desk, sideboard or display shelf than Sony’s larger spatial reality displays.

The ELF-MN1 also includes stereo speakers and a microphone, although their usefulness depends on the applications being used. These components can support experiences other than displaying static digital figures.
The small screen has limitations. It’s better suited for single characters and compact digital objects than expansive scenes that require substantial viewing space, and it doesn’t offer the immersive experience of a VR headset.
Connect a smartphone or Windows computer
The ELF-MN1 connects to compatible Windows PCs and supports iOS or Android phones via USB-C. The connection requires DisplayPort Alternate Mode, so USB-C alone is not enough.

Sony’s Windows minimums are Windows 11, a six-core CPU, a supported NVIDIA or AMD GPU, and 8GB of RAM. A 1 meter USB-C cable is included, but the AC adapter and charging cable are sold separately. The display can charge a connected phone, although its battery may still drain depending on the device and the app.
Developers can use Sony’s Unity SDK to create compatible apps for the display.
Who should consider the Sony ELF-MN1?
The Sony ELF-MN1 is mainly suitable for anime collectors, avatar enthusiasts, and digital creators who want to display compatible 3D content without wearing a headset. Its small footprint makes it relevant for people who want a dedicated character display alongside their computer.
The limitations deserve equal. The 6-inch screen is not intended for normal monitor tasks, the 3D viewing experience is designed for one person, and buyers need compatible content and hardware.

At an estimated ¥54,000 in Japan, the ELF-MN1 is a specialty purchase rather than an inexpensive desktop accessory. Availability outside Japan has not been confirmed.

For people who already collect supported digital figures or plan to develop spatial content, the ELF-MN1 offers another way to display their creations. Others should first consider whether the available content justifies buying a separate screen.
