Add MobiGyan as a preferred source on GoogleNikon India has announced the upcoming release of firmware version 2.00 for the Nikon ZR, marking the camera’s first major firmware update since its launch in October 2025. The update introduces RED color science support for H.265 recording, expanded camera customization options, improved focus monitoring and reduced flicker in dark areas. The new firmware is designed to give professional filmmakers and content creators more control over image rendering and camera operation, while improving workflows for various production requirements.
RED Color Science support for H.265 recording
One of the biggest additions of firmware version 2.00 is support for RED’s Log3G10 gamma and REDWideGamutRGB color palette when recording in H.265 format.
With this addition, filmmakers can use RED color science while recording in the more compact H.265 format. This offers greater color gradation flexibility, smooth tonal gradation, and a wider color gamut while benefiting from smaller file sizes and longer recording times.
The update also introduces adjustable High ISO Noise Reduction settings with four selectable levels and recording in the following formats:
- H.265/Log3G10
- H.265/N log
- ProRes 422 HQ/N-Log
Users can select the appropriate noise reduction level to balance image detail and smoothness according to their projects, subjects and delivery requirements.

Enhanced Custom Controls For faster operation
Firmware version 2.00 also brings additional customization options to the Nikon ZR command dial. Users can now assign the following settings to command selectors:
- ISO sensitivity
- Exposure compensation
- white balance (WB)
- color temperature (WBK)
Additionally, users can assign the 3D LUT/View Assist function to an Fn button. This allows them to switch between these settings with a single operation without looking away from the monitor, making camera adjustment more convenient while shooting.

Improved Monitoring & Focus Assistance
The new firmware brings improvements to focus peaking and external monitoring workflows.
Focus peaking is now supported even when a 3D LUT is applied while recording in R3D NE format. This helps filmmakers verify precise focus while previewing the intended final image, especially when working with a shallow depth of field.
Nikon also added support for applying a 3D LUT to HDMI video output. This allows users to monitor an image with a rendering closer to the finished footage on an external display.
Reduces Flicker In Dark Areas
Another improvement in firmware version 2.00 is new image processing designed to suppress frame-by-frame fluctuations in black levels.
This helps reduce visible flicker and shadow areas, especially in high ISO scenes. The improvement is intended to deliver more consistent-looking footage in low-light environments, especially when scenes contain large areas of shadows.
The firmware version 2.00 update is scheduled for a future release and brings these improvements to the Nikon ZR, expanding its video capabilities and providing filmmakers with additional flexibility in their production workflows.
