The Motorola Razr Fold is finally getting a new update, but it’s not the one you were hoping for. In other words, this is not an Android 17 update, but regardless, this one is nice to see for one specific reason.
A new update brings the October 2026 security patch to the Motorola Razr Fold, not Android 17
Until now, the Motorola Razr Fold was sitting on the August 2026 Android security patch. This is a few months behind the competition. Well, this new update brings that to the October 2026 Android security update, which is what the competition is offering.
Note that the update appears to be coming to both unlocked models and a carrier-locked version so far. A user who shared the information on Reddit said as much. This update brings software version W3WBS36.36-123-2-1, while the carrier-locked version gets version W3WBS36.36-123-5-1.
What’s interesting is that Motorola pushed Android 17 to the Razr Ultra (2025), which is an older flip-folding model. The Motorola Edge 60 Fusion and the Edge 60 Pro also got it, and a few others, but the Razr Fold still doesn’t.
The phone joined the Android 17 beta program a month ago
The fact that Motorola Razr Fold joined the Android 17 beta program a month ago makes things even more confusing. Motorola’s support team said that additional work is needed to optimize Android 17 for Razr Fold displays, so that’s probably the reason for the delay. This is the company’s first book-style foldable after all.
Android 17 is coming to the Razr Fold; it’s just a little late. Motorola needs to update its phones a little faster, and it seems like that’s exactly what the company is doing.
The all-new Motorola Signature 27 gets 7 years of Android OS and security updates, which is a significant and welcome improvement in terms of longevity. We hope that updates will also roll out faster, on a monthly basis.
