Razer has launched a cheaper successor to its flagship Barracuda headset. Those Razer Barracuda V2 Pro will launch in the US on October 15, 2026 at $199.99, which is $50 below the $249.99 the original Barracuda Pro cost at its 2022 launch. It adds a detachable boom mic and a much longer battery, but it also changes the drivers and drops a few things from the first model.
Battery, weight and comfort

The biggest leap is perseverance. Razer reviews the V2 Pro at up to 70 hours of battery life, or up to 50 hours with noise cancellation on. The original Barracuda Pro is rated for up to 40 hours. The new headset is also lighter, at 285 grams versus 340 grams, and it has floating ear cups that fold flat plus leather memory foam cushions for noise isolation.
That weight reduction is important for a headset sold as a gaming and travel pair. Razer has also built a storage space for the USB-C wireless dongle into the headset, so the dongle can travel with you instead of getting lost in a bag.
Microphones and sound

The original Barracuda Pro only had two hidden beamforming microphones. The V2 Pro keeps those for calls on the go and adds one detachable HyperClear Full Band Mic for desktop gaming, with AI noise cancellation on both setups. If you chat with squadmates every night, this is the most practical upgrade here.

The sound hardware changes more quietly. The V2 Pro used 40 mm TriForce Bio-Cellulose Driverwhere the original uses 50 mm drivers of the same family and a built-in THX Achromatic Audio Amplifier. Razer doesn’t list that amp for the V2 Pro, so it’s worth listening before you assume the sound will match. On PC, the V2 Pro supports THX Spatial Audio+ with 7.1.4 virtual surround on Windows 11. Both models offer Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation with an Ambient mode.
connectivity

The V2 Pro supports Bluetooth 6.0 and Razer HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz simultaneously, so you can keep game audio running while making a phone call or playing music via Bluetooth. The original used SmartSwitch Dual Wireless with Bluetooth 5.2, which allows you to switch between the two connections, but built around the switches instead of listening to both. Razer lists PC, console and mobile support for the V2 Pro, Nintendo Switch 2 via USB-C, and Steam Deck via a 3.5mm cable which is not included. Razer says the original has no wired mode at all, as its ANC, amplifier and mics depend on the battery.

Which one should you buy?
For most people, the V2 Pro is the better choice: it’s lighter, lasts much longer, includes a boom mic and has a lower list price. The original Barracuda Pro still has larger 50mm drivers, the THX amplifier and a case, and you can see current listings for it on Amazon. The V2 Pro is sold through Razer’s site, and you can check out full specs on the official Razer Barracuda V2 Pro page. If you want a headset for the desk and the commute, the Barracuda V2 Pro is the one to look at first. As an Amazon affiliate, Trendy Gadget earns from qualified purchases.
