In a blog post this week, WhatsApp confirmed that it is developing four new features to make it easier to manage group chats and keep track of what’s going on in each one. Here are the details.
Four new features are coming to WhatsApp group chats
WhatsApp announced this week that the filter drawer that appears when users swipe down on the conversation list will now include a “Mentions and Replies” button alongside other filter options such as groups, favorites, unread and custom filters.
Once tapped, the chat list only shows “unread group conversation[s] where you were either mentioned or received a direct reply, including @all messages,” WhatsApp says.
In addition, WhatsApp now lets users pin messages in group chats indefinitely, instead of choosing between 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
Another in-chat feature coming to Groups is the ability to “send anyone’s recent messages retroactively after joining a group just by typing their name in the chat.” Previously, this was only possible when someone was added to a group, rather than after they had joined.
Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out group status sharing, which allows users to post updates visible only to members of a specific group. Other members can view, respond and add their own statuses, which will disappear after 24 hours.
As is often the case with WhatsApp updates, it may take some time for all four features to be available to everyone. To view the full announcement, follow this link.
