Apple’s standard iPhone 18 could get major performance and battery upgrades next year. A new leak from a well-known Chinese tipster on Weibo points to two significant improvements.
Apple changed its usual launch plan this year by only announcing the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, reports suggest that the standard iPhone 18 models will arrive in early 2027. The wait could bring some notable hardware improvements.
According to the leak, the iPhone 18 will have a bigger battery. This should improve battery life alongside a more efficient chipset. The phone is also expected to use a stripped down version of Apple’s A20 chip. It will reportedly be built using TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing process.
However, not every upgrade will make it to the standard models. The smaller Dynamic Island is expected to remain exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. This means that the regular iPhone 18 could retain the current Dynamic Island design.
Prices could also be a concern for buyers. The next iPhone 18 is expected to cost a little more than its predecessor. This comes after Apple raised the starting price of the iPhone 17 by $100 last year. With smartphone prices rising in the industry, another increase could make the standard model less affordable.
