Amazon’s Kids Tablet 8 and Kids Tablet 11 are starting $230 in the $330significantly more than older, cheaper Fire Kids models. Parents expecting a budget holiday choice should consider this well before the October 14 launch, especially as child safety concerns increasingly shape how tech companies design products for younger users.
What you get
The two new models bring aluminum builds and Android to Amazon’s children’s tablet lineup for the first time.
Both models share a Aluminum body and an eight-core processor, with screen sizes of 8.7 inches and 11 inches. Amazon estimates up to 14 hours of video playback on the smaller model and up to 15 hours on the larger; these are manufacturer numbers, not independently verified results.
Each purchase includes an age-specific protective case (a soft bumper with handle for ages 3 and up, or a slim hard case with folding kickstand for ages 6 and up), franchise designs for younger kids including Paw Patrol options, one year of Amazon Kids+ (an ad-free subscription that covers books, shows, games and apps), Alexa for Kids and an age-based Dynamic Tab for content recommendations, and Storybuilder, which lets kids use their voices to create illustrated stories.
The Google Play caveat
Android access expands the app ecosystem, but broader doesn’t automatically mean appropriate.
Moving on from Fire OS Android opens up the app catalog far beyond what Amazon’s previous tablets have offered. Parent-managed Google Play access means families can still control what gets installed; the availability of more apps does not replace active monitoring.

Prices and availability
Both models ship October 14 in North America, with European markets following shortly after.
The Kids Tablet 8 starts at $230 and the Kids Tablet 11 at $330, with shipping starting October 14 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Select European markets, which reportedly include the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, will follow on October 19.
The honest value question
The package contains more than the tablet, but independent tests have not yet weighed.
The price covers the tablet, an age-appropriate case, and a year of Kids+. Independent performance, battery and durability tests are not yet available. Treat these as capable Android tablets with kid-focused packaging, not direct replacements for older, cheaper Fire Kids devices.
