One of the disadvantages of foldable phones is that the interior display develops more and more visible wrinkles over time. Apple has reportedly delayed the release of the iPhone Duo as the company tries to solve this problem.
Apple’s VP of Hardware Engineering, Kate Bergeron, recently revealed one way the company is fighting cancer: replacement layers.
Per an interview with @angietutorials on TikTok, Apple made a replacement layer on the folding screen.

“The matte display coating does a really nice job of, I’d say, minimizing scratches. But there’s a cover layer on top, and we’ve done a significant amount of engineering to help that wear as long as possible, and to make sure you get the most out of the performance of that layer,” Bergeron said.
“It’s actually replaceable, which is a really nice thing for the customer, that you can peel off that layer and get a new one,” she continued.
This layer, referred to as the Nano Texture “Cover Layer,” is actually considered a separate part of the display per the AppleCare service cost list maintained by tech YouTuber Quinn Nelson. This layer of coverage costs $19 for service, while internal display damage will set you back $99.
However, I haven’t seen any reporting or releases from Apple detailing replacement prices for unlocked phones. If you keep the duo for a while and the fruit starts to bother you, it seems that Apple has a solution.
Let us know if the fruit is a concern for you in the comments below and if an inexpensive replacement layer makes a big difference.
