Casio has brought its GMA-S160 watch series to the US market. After an initial launch in Japan last month, the three new analog-digital models, available in black, navy and white, are now on sale stateside for $145.

Casio GMA-S160 Specifications

The main draw of the GMA-S160 is its reduced footprint. Casio markets this under its women’s line, focusing on a slimmer, more compact case than its existing GMA-P2100 models. The watch measures 40.7 x 35.7 x 10.8 mm and weighs just 31 grams. It’s built for people who want the standard durability of a Casio watch but have smaller wrists or simply prefer a less bulky profile for everyday wear.

Design-wise, Casio has kept things relatively simple. The bezel and band have a matte finish, which is paired with a metallic dial and matching metal accents on the buckle and band loop. The overall look is minimal, avoiding the busy, text-heavy bezels found on many of the company’s other rugged watches.

Casio also continues its recent trend of using alternative materials. The main resin components in the bezel and band are made from bio-based resin.

Despite the smaller size, the internal specifications are standard for this range of Casio watches. The GMA-S160 retains the usual shock-resistant construction and 200 meters of water resistance. The face has a traditional two-hand analog display next to a small digital LCD screen that shows the hour, minute, second, date and day of the week.

The watch also has a hand shift function for better digital display visibility, dual time, one second stopwatch, an auto-calendar until 2099, and dual LED lighting for both analog and digital displays. It runs on a CR1025 battery, which Casio claims can last up to three years.

In related news, Casio recently launched three affordable MDV106C dive watches in the US with 200m water resistance and introduced its rugged Mudmaster GWG-B1000-1A3 to the American market.
