Chinese automaker Geely announces entry into the Canadian market

Geely Auto has announced that it is officially entering the Canadian car market.

The Chinese car company says it will introduce its first vehicles to the Canadian market in 2027 and is currently setting up local operations and developing a retail network ahead of launch.

“Canada represents an important next step in Geely Auto’s international growth,” said Bryan Wu, MD of Geely Auto Canada. “We are entering this market with a long-term commitment, bringing global technology and engineering capabilities to Canadian drivers, while building strong local partnerships and the support customers need to feel confident in choosing Geely.”

Wu also said that “We know that trust is earned over time, and we are committed to earning it here.”

The company says it is entering Canada “backed by world-class capabilities in vehicle engineering, safety, electrification, smart technology and advanced manufacturing.” The Geely Auto Group has sold more than 3.02 million vehicles worldwide, including nearly 1.69 million “new energy” vehicles.

Geely technically already does business in Canada, but this will be the first time the main brand is sold here. The company currently owns Volvo, Lotus (which has already imported some of its Chinese-built EVs), and Polestar.
