Exynos 2700 production is underway for the Galaxy S27 series, but Samsung still hasn’t decided on the Ultra

The Exynos 2700 has gone into volume production at Samsung, according to The Elec, with output more than 10% over the Exynos 2600’s as the Galaxy S27 Pro joins the lineup.

The S27, S27+, and Pro should carry the chip in Korea and Europe. Samsung Galaxy S27 series could be more expensive, especially if you want more storage, while American and Chinese buyers, along with other regions, will get Snapdragon versions. The Ultra model is still undecided, and Samsung’s own divisions disagree about its processor.

Why is the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s chip still undecided?

System LSI, Samsung’s chip design arm, wants the 2700 in it, because a victory would increase its income and reputation. MX, the mobile unit, has the final word, and it is reported to be checking performance and thermals, weighing Qualcomm prices, and confirming that the SF2P line can deliver enough chips.

Costs can tip the balance. According to The Elec, Samsung is increasing the Exynos part in part to lean less on Qualcomm, which fits with previous reports of a more expensive Galaxy S27 family as memory costs rise. If Samsung chooses its own chip for the S27 Ultra, it would be the first Exynos-powered Ultra since the S22 Ultra in 2022.

Does the Exynos 2700 have the performance to win?

Claims say that internal Geekbench 6 runs put the Exynos 2700 9.5% ahead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in multi-core work. Qualcomm’s chip posted 12,856, so the Exynos would top 14,000, though Qualcomm likely holds the single-core edge. Short runs on unreleased silicon say little about power and thermal management, which MX is reportedly investigating.

Early Exynos 2700 tests hinted that Samsung may be focusing just as much on efficiency as outright speed. An engineering sample reportedly delivered Exynos 2600-class performance below 3GHz, while a new heat path block design was also linked to the chip for improved cooling.
