A chronograph is already a watch face to do a lot. Add the day, date, and month, and you have a lot of information competing for space on your wrist. Fossil’s new Signature CS-1 Master Calendar Chronoquartz lends itself to that busy look, with recessed subdials, calendar windows, and a red-tipped hand that traces the date around the dial.

Price: From $695 (leather strap)
Where to buy: Fossil

The Swiss quartz movement handles timekeeping, while four versions give you a choice of stainless steel bracelet or Italian leather straps. At $695 for leather and $795 for a bracelet, this is not an impulse buy Fossil. It’s a more ambitious take on the brand’s everyday watch, with a detailed dial to match.

A Swiss quartz movement with chronograph and calendar functions

The Master Calendar Chronoquartz uses a Swiss Ronda 5040.F quartz movement with 13 jewels. Its chronograph measures elapsed time, while separate displays show the day, date and month. These functions provide more information than a conventional three-hand watch without requiring a mechanical movement.

Day and month windows sit near the top of the dial, while a red-speckled central hand points to the date around its outer edge. Recessed chronograph subdials distinguish the stopwatch functions from the calendar, although the arrangement remains busier than a standard watch face.

The dial has a finely grooved texture inspired by vinyl records, contrasting rings, and a colorful accent on the upper chronograph pusher. These details reflect the signature collection’s mid-century design influences.

Quartz power eliminates the need for regular winding. Ronda lists a standard battery life of 54 months – about four and a half years – for the 5040.F movement. Battery replacement will eventually be necessary.

Four styles with stainless steel bracelets or leather straps

All four versions share the same 42mm case design and movement. Their differences are mainly visual, allowing the buyer to choose a dial color and strap configuration without changing the functions of the watch.

The gold-tone stainless steel FSI2000 combines a black dial with a gold-tone stainless steel case and matching bracelet. Its dark dial contrasts with the gold finish, giving it a more dressy appearance.

The Sunset Orange FSI2001 pairs an orange-red dial with a silver-tone stainless steel case and bracelet. Its lighter color makes it the most visually prominent option in the collection.

Both bracelet models cost $795 and feature links designed for tool-free adjustment, along with double-push butterfly deployant clasps.

Signature CS 1 42mm Master Calendar Chronoquartz Black Leather Watch

The Robin’s Egg Blue FSI2002 combines a blue dial with a black Italian leather strap. Its cooler color scheme offers a more subdued alternative to the gold-tone and orange versions.

Signature CS 1 42mm Master Calendar Chronoquartz Brown Leather Watch

The Brown Leather FSI2003 has a black dial with contrasting light colored chronograph subdials and a brown Italian leather strap. The reverse panda arrangement gives it a more traditional chronograph appearance.

Both leather models cost $695, making them $100 less expensive than the bracelet versions. Leather generally requires more care about moisture, while stainless steel bracelets are better suited for frequent exposure to sweat and water.

Sapphire crystal in a 42mm stainless steel case

All four models have stainless steel cases with domed sapphire crystals. Sapphire offers strong resistance to everyday scratches, although it can still be damaged by impacts. The curved crystal also complements the vintage-inspired styling of the collection.

The caseback has an embossed design with Fossil’s Triple Diamond Quality insignia. Unlike the automatic model in the Signature CS-1 collection, the Chronoquartz does not have an exhibition caseback.

Water resistance is rated at 50 meters, or 5 ATM. This is a pressure resistance rating rather than a guarantee that the watch can be safely used at that depth. Buyers should follow Fossil’s guidance for specific water activities and take extra care with the leather straps.

The 42mm diameter may appeal to those who are used to medium or larger watches. Case thickness, wrist shape, and strap fit affect comfort, especially for buyers who prefer smaller timepieces.

Fossil lists a five-year limited warranty for these models. Buyers should review the applicable warranty terms and exclusions.

Is the Fossil Master Calendar Chronoquartz worth the price?

The Signature CS-1 Master Calendar Chronoquartz represents a more expensive direction for Fossil. Its Swiss-made construction, Ronda movement, sapphire crystal, and combination of chronograph and calendar functions set it apart from many of the brand’s conventional quartz watches.

These specifications do not automatically establish better finish or long-term durability than similarly priced alternatives. At $695 to $795, buyers can also consider Swiss and Japanese watches that offer different movements, case sizes and complications.
