A well-known tipster, Ice Universe, has just revealed some new Galaxy S27 Ultra camera-related information. He actually had a lot to say in his posts on X, both about the cameras themselves and Samsung’s image processing.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra will ditch the 3x telephoto camera and get a new main snapper
Let’s talk about the cameras themselves first, shall we? The tipster says it’s now confirmed that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will drop a 3x telephoto camera. It will use a 5x periscope telephoto camera instead. There is therefore no middle ground between 1x and 5x. The next optical step after 1x will be 5x.
He also confirmed that the main 200-megapixel camera on the phone uses the ISOCELL HP6 sensor. It’s essentially a Galaxy-customized version of the ISOCELL HPC sensor.
The tipster also noted that the 5x periscope telephoto camera sensor remains unchanged compared to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. That means we get a 1/2.52 inch sensor size. The aperture also remains at f/2.9.
Image processing gets three notable changes with the Galaxy S27 Ultra
He also talked about camera processing changes compared to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The general color tone will change from cool to warm, according to what has been said. It will be easily noticeable, he claims.
The second change is better highlight control for small, bright objects. For example, when shooting small light sources, the Galaxy S26 Utlra tends to suppress the highlights. The Galaxy S27 Ultra should do a better job with those.
The third change relates to low-light photography. There should be less noise in dark areas, and the overall image in low light should be ‘smoother’. So, in other words, smoother shadows should be part of the package.
