First information about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9 has just appeared. A tipster, kro, said that the Galaxy Z Fold 9 is in development, while sharing some details about it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 9 could be just 7.9 mm when folded
He claims that the phone will be positioned as a direct competitor of the iPhone Duo, which is logical. He also says that the target thickness when the device is folded is 7.9mm, while Samsung is aiming for 3.9mm thickness when it is unfolded.
That, quite frankly, sounds unreal. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is already much thinner at 9.7mm when folded, and miles ahead of the iPhone Duo, which is 11.3mm thick when folded. The phone is also much lighter at 201 grams compared to 254 grams of Apple’s foldable.
If Samsung manages to reach the 7.9mm thickness target, that would of course be excellent. It would also mark a huge change, even compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
UDC could make a comeback
But that’s not all. The tipster also claims that Samsung is considering an under-display camera (UDC) for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. He also said the following: “I heard it can already be confirmed.”
We guess that he refers to the sub-display camera for the main display, similar to what the iPhone Duo did and what Samsung did on some previous Galaxy Z Fold series models.
That’s what the tipper said at the end “We need to wait for more solid information before drawing any conclusions.” In other words, take what has been said here with a grain of salt, because nothing seems to be set in stone yet.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 9 is expected to see the light of day in July 2027, when the company finally sticks to its release cycle. That is far away; The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is still a new phone.
