Google Maps has received a major update for Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo, which brings full support for its two displays. The update addresses several layout issues that previously affected the app on the device.
Version 26.44.4 of Google Maps has reported the changes. However, Google’s App Store release notes only mention general bug fixes. The improvements become apparent when users open the app on the iPhone Duo.
Previously, Google Maps did not use the inner display properly. The app appears like a regular iPhone version, leaving much of the wide screen unused. Users could move it to either side, but the remaining space remained empty.
Now Google Maps uses the entire inner display. Its menus and search bar appear on the left side, while the map or satellite view fills the remaining space. The new layout also makes the app similar to its iPad version.
The outer display also gets a cleaner layout. Previously, Google Maps appeared slightly shifted to the left. This adjustment made way for the new iOS dock position. The latest update fixes the overall appearance.
Street View also benefits from the wider screen. It now appears on the left side, while the map remains visible on the right side. Users can also expand Street View to cover the entire display.
Additionally, closing the iPhone Duo while using Street View moves the view to the outer display. A close button then allows the user to return to the map. The update makes Google Maps more useful on Apple’s foldable device. However, it remains unclear whether Google plans to introduce similar layouts across its other iOS apps.
