Apple is making it easier for iPhone Duo owners to find apps that take advantage of the foldable phone’s larger screen.
The company has confirmed that the App Store will introduce a new ‘Made for iPhone Duo’ label, helping users identify apps that are specifically optimized for the device.
The announcement came just ahead of the launch of the iPhone Duo today, October 23, with Apple already highlighting several apps that have been updated to support its new foldable design.
While existing iPhone apps will still work on the Duo, the experience will vary depending on which version of Apple’s Software Development Kit (SDK) developers used.
According to Apple’s developer guidelines, apps must be built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later to qualify as fully optimized for the iPhone Duo. These apps can fill the entire inner display, with their toolbars arranged vertically below the status bar to make better use of the available screen space.
Apps built using the older iOS 27 SDK will still occupy most of the inner display, although they will leave space around the status bar on the right edge.
Meanwhile, apps developed with iOS 26 or earlier run in a smaller window centered on the screen, leaving noticeable blank space on either side rather than stretching across the entire display.
This difference could make the new App Store label particularly useful, especially for users who expect their favorite apps to make the most of the Duo’s larger screen.
It also gives developers a clearer incentive to update their apps, rather than simply relying on compatibility with existing iPhone software.
Apple says more developers will continue to optimize their apps for the iPhone Duo, with additional updates expected to appear in the App Store over time. Therefore, the new label should make it easier to tell which apps are ready for the foldable experience and which still need some work.
