Narwal Freo 20 and Freo 20 Edge bring 31,000 Pa suction and smarter cleaning to Australia

The Narwal Freo 20 and Freo 20 Edge will launch in Australia on October 5, 2026, bringing 31,000 Pa of suction, new anti-tangle systems and more automated floor cleaning to the brand’s robot vacuum range. We reviewed the Narwal Freo Z Ultra the other day here at Craving Tech if you want to see how good it is.

Although the two models share several core features, Narwal positions them for slightly different needs. The Freo 20 focuses heavily on AI-assisted navigation and cleaning decisions, while the Freo 20 Edge introduces the company’s FlowWash mopping system, which continuously cleans its mop as it moves around the house.

Both models also come with multi-functional docking stations designed to reduce how often owners need to empty dust, clean mop components or manually refill water.

Narwal Freo 20 uses AI to adjust its cleaning

The Freo 20 features Narwal’s TwinAI Dodge Obstacle Avoidance Pro system, which uses two RGB cameras to detect objects and navigate around them. According to Narwal, the system offers millimeter-accurate obstacle detection and can identify different types of household objects instead of treating everything in its path in the same way.

Its adaptive cleaning technology can also change how the robot cleans based on the dirt it detects. This should help it respond differently to everyday dust, larger dirt and other abuses without requiring owners to manually adjust the cleaning mode each time.

Narwal has also included dedicated Pet Care and Baby Care modes. These offer cleaning profiles intended for homes with pets or young children, although their effectiveness ultimately depends on how accurately the robot recognizes different situations around the house.

I’m particularly interested in seeing how well the object detection works with smaller items like charging cables and pet toys. Those remain some of the more difficult obstacles for robotic vacuum cleaners to reliably identify, even among premium models that claim to be able to do so.

The Freo 20 delivers up to 31,000Pa of TurboForce suction, backed by what Narwal describes as 120,000 RPM pickup force. The company claims that it can achieve a particle removal rate of at least 99 percent, although this figure has not been independently tested by Craving Tech.

Hair is managed by the new DualFlow Tangle-Free System, which carries SGS certification and is claimed to achieve a zero percent hair tangle rate. That could be useful in households with pets or people with long hair, where cleaning the hair of the roller is often one of the least enjoyable parts of robot vacuum ownership.

An extendable stretch mop and side brush help the Freo 20 reach closer to walls and into corners. It can also cross thresholds measuring up to 4 cm and has a 9.5 cm high body, which allows it to clean under some beds, cupboards and other low furniture.

Its multifunctional dock washes the mop with water heated to 100 ° C before drying it with 60 ° C air. The dock can also refill the robot’s water tank and automatically empty collected dust, with Narwal claiming up to 120 days between dust bag changes.

Freo 20 Edge presents continuously cleaned mopping

The Narwal Freo 20 Edge is built around FlowWash Mopping, a new system that cleans the mop with fresh water while the robot travels over the floor. Dirt is removed from the mop during the cleaning cycle, which reduces the risk of dirty water and debris entering another part of the room.

Narwal claims the system delivers up to seven times greater cleaning efficiency. This claim must of course be evaluated under real conditions, but continuously cleaning the mop makes practical sense, especially for larger tiled surfaces or homes where spills and sticky marks are common.

The track mop can extend onto walls and furniture edges, while an inverted side brush is designed to collect dirt from corners. The robot is only 95 mm tall, which is the same as 9.5 cm, so it is able to reach under a reasonable range of furniture.

Vacuum cleaner performance comes from 31,000 Pa hyper suction. Like the Freo 20, the Edge model uses Narwal’s DualFlow Tangle-Free System, combining a cyclone roller brush with an inflamed side brush to minimize tangled hair.

Its multifunctional dock automatically cleans and dries the mop, then empties the robot’s litter box. The included 2.5-liter dust bag uses dust compression technology and is claimed to hold up to 120 days of collected dirt. Hot air drying works at 45°C to prevent the damp mop from developing unpleasant odors between cleaning cycles.

A 5,200mAh battery powers the Freo 20 Edge, although Narwal didn’t provide an estimated charge time. Other practical touches include an easy-lift water tank and a child and pet safety lock.

Narwal also says the Freo 20 Edge operates at about half the industry-average noise level. The company did not provide a specific decibel measurement or explain the conditions used for that comparison, so it will be worth waiting for independent tests before drawing conclusions about how quiet it is.

With robot vacuum suction figures continuing to rise, I think the more interesting developments here are the continuously cleaned mop and reduced maintenance requirements. Strong suction is useful, but preventing a dirty mop mess from spreading over the floor could make a more noticeable difference during daily cleaning.
