Samsung has been steadily turning its wearables into health companions, and its latest update is a big one. The company’s updated sleep apnea feature has arrived on both the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring.
The rollout comes after the US FDA cleared the feature in July, and Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) also gave it the green light. Samsung also gets bragging rights here, as it is the first company to bring sleep apnea risk detection to a smart ring.
What’s new with Samsung’s sleep apnea feature?
The original feature only tells you if you are in danger. The updated version, found in the Samsung Health Monitor app, studies your vitals more closely overnight and now tells you how severe your breathing problems are.
That extra detail can be really helpful when you visit your doctor because you’re going with real data instead of guesswork.
The feature already has a strong track record. Back in February 2024, its first version earned FDA de novo authorization, making it the first wearable tool of its kind to flag possible moderate or severe sleep apnea.
Why is the Galaxy Ring important here?
Not everyone enjoys sleeping with a smartwatch on their wrist. The Galaxy Ring is light and comfortable, so you’re much more likely to stay up all night. Better yet, it doesn’t require weeks of data. Just two nights of sleep tracking every 10 days is enough to get useful results.

“We give people the tools to detect possible early signs of sleep apnea and take charge of their well-being,” said Jongmin Choi, Head of Health R&D Group, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung Electronics.
What it means to you
If you own a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring, this is a feature worth enabling. You can use whichever device you sleep more comfortably with, and Samsung plans to bring the feature to more countries over time.
