You will now attach the magnetic lock. These usually consist of three parts: the strike plate (the large silver piece of metal), the mounting bracket and magnetic base. Normally the base and mounting plate are attached and must be separated with an included Allen wrench.
Hold the lock against the inside of the box, line it up with the edge of the box and measure the distance from the bottom of the box to the back of the mounting bracket. Using this measurement, cut a piece of 2×4. Remove the magnetic base from the mounting bracket and screw the bracket into the top of the 2×4, lining it up with the edge of the wood block. Reattach the magnet base and screw the wooden block from the front to the box.
If the wood of your box is thick enough, you can skip the 2×4 altogether and just screw or screw the mounting bracket to the wall of the box itself, but the box I got was too thin to do that and using the 2×4 gives it a lot of strength. 2×4s are also the perfect size for mounting these types of locks.
NOTE: If your lid is flat, you will need to allow room for the kick plate to line up with the base, so do not mount the base on the top edge of the box.
