The original G-SHOCK square shape spent more than four decades to develop a digital display. The new 2500 series takes that familiar outline in a different direction: an analog dial with a three-part window that does more than show the date. It can display the operation mode, stopwatch minutes and settings without adding a separate digital screen.
The 2500 collection will arrive in the US in November, starting at $145 for the Harz GAC-2500. Metal-accented GMC-2500 models run $280 to $300, while the GMC-2500D with a metal bracelet costs $350. That’s three ways into the same new design, instead of sorting through three generations.

A date window with another job
Look on the right side of the dial and you will find the multi-mission date display. Its three cells change with the function you use, so the space normally reserved for a calendar also provides information for the stopwatch and setup. The small seconds hand sits opposite it at 9 o’clock, let the central hands tell the time.
That arrangement gives the face a different balance of a digital square and an analog-digital G-SHOCK. There is no rectangular LCD hidden under the hands. Instead, the extra information sits in the circular layout of the dial, surrounded by the hour markers.
The calendar automatically adjusts through 2099 when the year, month and day are entered. A one-second stopwatch and LED lighting complete the daily functions. The controls still have the protection you’d expect around a G-SHOCK case, while the outer shape softens the original square with rounded contours.

The $145 GAC-2500 comes in black, green, white and yellow versions. The green GAC-2500-3A shown here uses pale hands and markers against a dark green dial, with an orange accent on the small seconds hand.
The choice of the GMC-2500 moves the look to metal accents, with US prices from $280 to $300. The $350 GMC-2500D adds a metal bracelet. The extra expense changes the materials and appearance, so compare the version you want instead of treating the $145 starting price as the cost of every watch in the family.
The green GAC-2500-3A measures 46.7 × 44.5 × 12.7 mm and weighs 47g. Its resin and bio-based resin case and bezel are paired with a bio-based resin band, mineral glass and 200 meters of water resistance. These dimensions and materials belong to this resin model, not automatically to any metal version.
Inside, the shock release minute hand is magnetically attached rather than rigidly fixed to its shaft. It can move under an impact and return to the correct position within a few minutes. A briefly displaced hand after a knock is part of the structure of how this structure behaves, rather than something to mistake for ordinary time drift.
The five year battery figure needs the right setting

The small seconds hand can be stopped to save energy and restarted when necessary. The starting up to five year battery figure depends on that energy saving function. The GAC-2500-3A specifications give the normal battery rating as approximately two years on a CR1025. Five years is the power saving requirement, not the standard rating.
The 2500 series will be available at select US retailers, G-SHOCK’s online store and its Soho store in November. The announced starting price is $145, with the bracelet version at $350. Pick a finish now, then check the US store when availability starts in November.
