Forget hulking all-electric giants like the Jaguar Type 01. Small is beautiful and no one like that, the new Smart # 2. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show 2026, the “ultra-compact urban two-seater” will be perfect for crowded city streets.
The all-electric compact city car is a reimagined version of the classic two-seater that did reasonably good business until the Smart Fortwo EQ, which was discontinued a few years ago. Unlike the similar pint-sized Citroen Ami, it has enough pep to be really practical.
Beneath that sleek exterior, the Smart #2 has a 35.8kWh battery that sends juice to a rear-mounted 60kW electric motor with a respectable 130Nm of torque turning the wheels.
At just over 1100 kg, the Smart #2 is expected to be away from the lights pretty quickly. Meanwhile, five-link rear suspension should mean that it also handles well. There is also an impressive turning circle of just 6.95 meters.
For a city car, the range is quite decent with up to 186 miles on tap as opposed to the miserly 128-mile range of the otherwise fab and similarly dinky Honda Super-N.
Better still, the Smart #2 supports 65kW fast charging, so an average 10% to 80% charge takes about 20 minutes. There’s AC charging up to 11kW, making it ideal for anyone with a home charger, while Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adds further appeal to the cute compact.
Considering its diminutive stature, the Smart #2 benefits from having its wheels tucked directly into the corners of the car, with wider rubber at the rear.
Inside, space levels are pretty good, with styling features that are typically, er, smart. A split tailgate means the Smart #2 should also be reasonably practical, while the new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform that sits the car includes the latest safety features.
At just 2,746mm long, this will be the smallest Smart yet, with the Smart #1 being the next best thing to compact from the brand. Apart from that, Smart focused on larger SUV models and released no less than three and fast successors, including the Smart #3 and ridiculously fast Smart #5 Brabus. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
