THINKWARE has officially launched its new ARC 800 Dash Cam in Australia, featuring 4K UHD recording, Sony STARVIS 2 imaging, AI-powered night vision, and intelligent parking monitoring for drivers looking for better protection on the road and while parked.
The new dual-channel dash cam is available through Autobarn and Supercheap Auto for A$849.99, with a special offer allowing eligible Australian customers to receive an LTE module when they register their purchase.
The ARC 800 has a 4K UHD front camera paired with a 1080p Full HD rear camera. Its front camera uses a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, which is designed to capture more details in challenging lighting conditions, especially at night. Both cameras also support dual HDR processing to balance the exposure when shooting scenes with bright lights, shadows or strong sunlight.
Drivers can also switch to 2K QHD recording at up to 60 frames per second, which can be useful for capturing smoother footage when traveling at higher speeds. The front camera offers a 146-degree field of view, while the rear camera covers 125 degrees.
It comes with AI Night Vision technology, which uses AI-based image processing to improve visibility in parking mode. According to THINKWARE, the technology can help detect details that conventional dashcams struggle to capture in dark environments. This could be particularly useful if your car is parked overnight in poorly lit areas, where an incident is one thing, but capturing enough detail to identify what happened is another.
We previously reviewed the THINKWARE U3000 PRO which features 4K recording quality and dual RADAR parking monitoring. It will be interesting to see how the ARC 800’s AI Night Vision performs in real-world conditions, especially compared to footage from the U3000 PRO.
To activate the Smart Parking mode, the ARC 800 must be connected through a hardwiring cable or compatible OBD-II power cable. This allows the dashcam to continue monitoring the vehicle even after the engine has been turned off, capturing impacts and other activities while parked. Professional installation is recommended, especially for drivers who are not comfortable working with their vehicle’s electrical system.
Unlike the U3000 PRO, which relies on a smartphone app to access its settings and recordings, the ARC 800 comes with a built-in 2.3-inch touchscreen.
Other features include a built-in GPS for recording speed and location information, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and security camera alerts. The ARC 800 also supports microSD cards with capacities of up to 512GB, which provide plenty of space for high-resolution recordings.
For drivers who want to monitor their vehicles remotely, the ARC 800 supports THINKWARE CONNECTED through an LTE module. This adds connected vehicle monitoring capabilities beyond what a traditional standalone dash cam can provide.
Interestingly, THINKWARE is offering eligible Australian buyers an LTE module when they register their ARC 800 through its Australian website. However, connected functionality may still require a compatible mobile data service, so it’s worth checking any additional costs before relying on this feature.
The ARC 800 has also received a 2026 Red Dot Award in recognition of its design and technology.
