tvOS 27.2 launched last week as the latest software update for Apple TV 4K, and it includes a new feature I’m a big fan of: shuffle for screen savers.
Shuffle option for screen locks is new in tvOS 27.2, allowing you to enjoy Apple’s options in all categories

Screensavers have been one of the best Apple TV features since tvOS first launched in 2015. That’s mainly because of the amazing antennas that have been captured around the world (and even from space).
Antennas are still my favorite type of Apple TV screensaver, but tvOS has been steadily adding other categories that are worth checking out as well.
Currently in Settings ⇾ Screen Saver you will find four categories:
- Antennas
- Memories & Slideshows
- Portraits
- Snoopy
The second and third options tap on your Apple Photos library and enjoy the joy of seeing your favorite memories on the big screen. Snoopy screensavers feature the beloved Peanuts character in a variety of entertaining scenes.
All these screen saving options are great. But until tvOS 27.2, you just had to select a category and that’s all you’d ever see.

Now with tvOS 27.2, Apple introduced a ‘Shuffle’ option that randomly cycles through screensavers from all four categories.
It’s a welcome new setting, long time coming but I’ve enjoyed it a lot. The ability to be surprised by more different screen savers may sound like a small thing, but it’s a meaningful improvement to the Apple TV 4K experience.
Have you tried the new screen saver shuffle setting in tvOS 27.2? Let us know in the comments.
