vivo V80 in for review

This is the vivo V80, yes, the same V80 we handled earlier this month. One, different unit; this is green (or is it blue?).

We are torn whether it is a green shade of blue or a blue shade of green. Either way, it’s much nicer (and original) than the iPhone shade of orange we covered last time.

This global model ships in a box with a transparent soft case, a 90W charger, and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Design-wise, the vivo V80 sits in the middle between its predecessor, the V70, and a recent iPhone Pro. It’s built like the V70 with a matte metal frame and semi-transparent glass, and a subtle paint job; it also resembles the iPhone Pro models wide camera island.

None of this is bad. The V80 feels very well made, and its smooth matte surface has a distinct air of flagship. The Zeiss-branded cameras also look like they mean business.

However, here the new model is not so convincing. This is essentially the same camera system as the one on the V70. And it’s not just the cameras: the V80 has the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 as the V70 a year ago.

The biggest (but you can only tell) differences are the name, a slightly faster screen (144Hz vs 120Hz), and the battery capacity, which is the most significant change. The V80 moves to a 7,200mAh silicon-carbon unit over the V70’s 6,500mAh.

And battery life is something we’ll be testing soon, so stay tuned!
