Scheduling a meeting via group chats can quickly become messy. Someone misses the message, someone else asks for the address again, and there is always that friend who is not on WhatsApp at all. WhatsApp’s latest event update could make organizing those plans a little easier, and it’s coming just in time for the holiday season.
Can friends join your events without WhatsApp?
Yes, and I think this is the most useful addition here. Set up your event, give it a nice cover image, and send the invitation link to everyone you want. Even if your friends don’t have a WhatsApp account, they can open the link, see what’s planned, and let you know if they’re coming.
There is also a new Event Home where you can find all your plans. You can design custom invitations, see who’s attending, plan reminders so no one forgets, and allow guests to bring someone along.
To get there, go to Settings and tap on Events. It shows every event you’ve hosted or been invited to, whether it’s already happened or is yet to come.
Is your phone number secure?
There are also some privacy details worth knowing. People you don’t know won’t get access to your number, and friends without WhatsApp will only get the address when they confirm they’re joining. Your regular chats and calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption, just like before.
Will this really make planning easier?
I love that events are finally getting their own space on WhatsApp instead of getting lost in group chats. If you are the friend who always ends up organizing things, you can spend less time answering the same questions. The feature will gradually reach all users over the next few weeks.
