XREAL AURA 12GB vs 16GB: Specifications and Price – Trendy Gadget

XREAL has finally put a price on its Android XR glasses. On October 7, the company said XREAL AURA starts at $1,279, with a second configuration at $1,499. Both use the same glasses and the same Snapdragon-powered computing puck, so the XREAL AURA 12GB vs 16GB Choice comes down to memory, storage, and how you plan to use it.

One pair of glasses, two computer pucks

AURA uses a split design. The glasses handle display and tracking with XREAL’s X1S spatial coprocessor, which the company rates at 3 ms motion-to-photon latency, while a tethered puck runs Android XR on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform with 48 TOPS of AI processing. The puck also works as a trackpad, has a fingerprint button, and clips onto a pocket or lanyard.

The only hardware that is shared between the two models sits in that puck. The basic version has 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storagein the upgrade 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storageboth with UFS 4.0 support. Everything else, including the 4,455 mAh (34.84 Wh) battery, Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and GPS, is listed as the same.

The shared display and optics

Both versions get the same glasses, weighing 95 g according to the XREAL specification sheet. Each eye gets a Sony micro-OLED panel at 1920 x 1200, up to 120Hz, and a rated peak of 1,050 nits, behind a 70-degree optical view. Unlike camera passthrough headsets, you see the real room immediately, and electrochromic dimming offers five levels of transparency that XREAL says block up to 99.9% of outside light.

Two world-facing tracking cameras handle 6DoF anchoring and hand tracking, and a separate high-resolution camera has a privacy LED. Audio is handled by Bose, with a four-microphone array for Gemini voice requests. You can also choose a glasses size at checkout: M for 60-66 mm IPD or L for 66-72 mm, and prescription inserts are supported.

Who needs 16GB and 512GB

For streaming video, surfing, and Gemini, the 12GB model should cover most people, since these tasks are based on the cloud. The 16GB version makes more sense if you plan to have several of the up to five virtual screens up at the same time, run heavier Android XR games from Google Play or save downloaded movies and spatial videos for flights. Extra RAM mainly helps apps stay loaded in the background rather than making a single app faster, so it’s about headroom, not raw speed.

Saving is the easier call. Doubling to 512GB It’s important if you keep offline video or 3D photo libraries, because the Puck doesn’t have a listed memory card slot. If you mainly use AURA as a large private screen via the DisplayPort input of a laptop or handheld, the basic model loses very little.

Limits value knowledge

Both versions share the same limits. The glasses remain tethered to the puck with the cable, XREAL has not released a battery life figure for the puck, and there is no firm ship date yet. Currently, pre-orders are only open to customers who have already paid a reservation deposit, with general orders promised in the coming weeks and shipping soon in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea. Shoppers who just want a wearable display for movies can look to simpler XR glasses, such as the VITURE XR glasses sold at Best Buy, which skip the calculator and its price.

XREAL prices the XREAL AURA at $1,279 for 12GB/256GB and $1,499 for 16GB/512GB, with new customers able to place a deposit on the XREAL AURA page for priority delivery. Prices were seen on October 7, 2026, and AURA is not yet on Amazon.
