While iOS 27 has been generally well-received, no update is perfect, and some users have reported experiencing performance issues since downloading the latest software.
Across multiple Reddit threads, there are reports of unresponsive touchscreens and slowness or stuttering. It is unclear how widespread these issues are, but in the case of unresponsive screens, users report that it can happen on almost any part of the interface, while the slow or stuttering performance is most exhibited when swimming or switching screens.
However, some possible solutions have also been presented. One user reported that restarting their phone fixed an unresponsive screen (at least temporarily), while another said that when their apps freeze, they can unfreeze them by switching to the home screen and then back to the frozen app.

As for lag and animations, one Redditor found that too many app icons on your home screen can cause a stuttery launch animation, so reducing the number of apps on each screen can help.
You may have to wait for a proper fix
However, these all seem to be either temporary solutions or ones that restrict how you can customize your phone, so they’re not ideal.
Longer term, it’s possible that things will settle themselves after the initial post-update system-wide indexing is complete. Failing that, if you are affected by these issues, you may have to wait for the next iOS update for a real fix, as hopefully Apple will address it there.
And if you haven’t updated to iOS 27 yet, you might want to consider holding off until it’s clearer how widespread these issues are — although usually bugs like these only affect a minority of users, so the risk probably isn’t too high.
There are certainly a lot of good things in iOS 27 too, including the long-awaited AI overhaul for Siri, so hopefully these teething problems won’t last long.
