Amazon introduces Kindle Click, a $35 remote for turning pages

Alongside a redesigned Kindle lineup that features slimmer designs, zero bezels and a lighter feel, Amazon announced a number of new accessories on Thursday. And one of them, a $34.99 remote called the Kindle Click, caught our eye.

The Kindle Click is a compact Bluetooth remote designed to allow readers to turn pages without touching their Kindle. The idea is simple, but it could solve a surprisingly common annoyance for e-reader owners who have to reach for the next page and tap the screen every time.

The small remote is designed for situations where touching the Kindle is not convenient. Amazon positions it specifically for reading under the covers, on a treadmill or with a Kindle lying on a tray table during a flight. Instead of reaching for the e-reader, readers can simply press a button on the remote control to turn the page.

The new accessory is compatible with all new Kindle devices, as well as Kindle models released in 2024 and later.

For years, Kindle owners have largely relied on third-party accessories, many of which use a clip-on mechanism that physically touches the display rather than communicating directly with the Kindle.

The Kindle Click puts Amazon in a category that competitors have already begun to explore. Rakuten Kobo, for example, launched its $29.99 Kobo Remote last year. There’s also the BOOX Tappy, a $29.99 wireless page turner designed for BOOX ePaper devices.

While Amazon’s Kindle Click is superior to these competing accessories, the company is likely betting that Kindle owners will pay for an official accessory designed specifically for the setup. This new Kindle lineup, one of the most significant physical redesigns in years, has a display that Amazon says is 30% faster at page turns than the previous generation.

Amazon also announced other accessories as part of the new Kindle family, including a magnetic cover with physical side-turn buttons and a charging dock stand for the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
