Delta 2.0 is finally here, and your iPhone just got a bigger retro game library

Delta 2.0 is here, and the popular iPhone emulator is getting more than just Sega Genesis support. The major update introduces a redesigned Liquid Glass interface, RetroAchievements, animated controller skins, and a bunch of quality-of-life improvements. It also adds support for Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo, turning the device into an even more compelling retro gaming handheld. Here’s everything worth knowing about the update.

Delta 2.0 adds a fresh look to Sega Genesis

The headline addition is Sega Genesis emulation, complete with new controller skins and support for Action Replay and Game Genie cheat codes. Then there’s RetroAchievements, which allows players to earn achievements in supported games, while a new Hardcore mode disables save state loading and cheats for anyone who wants a more authentic challenge.

The interface has also received a Liquid Glass makeover, with redesigned menus, system icons, and dedicated Recently Played and Favorites sections. Controller skins can now display animated buttons, fast forward speeds can be customized for individual players, and new audio controls allow players to keep their music or podcasts while playing. There’s even an option to reposition the game screen when using a connected controller.

Pokemon DLC, visual filters, and more

Pokemon fans will receive customized in-game content for classic Game Boy Advance titles, including event items and rare Pokemon. The first limited content is available for Pokemon Emerald, directly accessible through Delta’s pause menu. Experimental features include custom visual filters with options such as CRT effects, plus support for Epilogue’s GB/SN Operator accessories. These allow users to connect compatible physical cartridges to an iPhone or iPad, play them natively through Delta and read or write stored files. The update also improves iPad multitasking and lets users delete multiple save states at once.

For iPhone Duo owners, Delta Controller adapts layouts to different device orientations and supports Split View. Flip the device to sleep while playing a Nintendo DS game, just like closing the lid on the original handheld. And finally, Delta 2.0 fixes some annoying bugs, including crackling SNES audio and NES games sometimes opening to a black screen. It’s not just a new emulator skin: Delta 2.0 makes retro gaming more customizable, practical and rewarding.
