Google recently confirmed that it is finally rolling out Gemini-powered speech translation for Google Meetwhich brings real-time support for 63 languages across web, Android, iOS, and Google Meet hardware devices.
The update allows participants to easily translate speech between any combination of the 63 supported languages in the same meeting. The tool has automatic spoken language recognition that translates audio into each listener’s preferred language in near real-time, even when different languages are spoken or speakers switch mid-conversation.
Participants can also enable translation via the meeting toolbar instead of relying on a host configuration. Users can also designate languages they already understand to skip the translation, and there’s also support for synchronized subtitles to match the translated audio.
That said, meetings must be hosted by an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI Plan user, which extends speech translation to all participants, including external guests. For single-person calls, the feature works if either participant has an eligible plan.
It is important to note that there are time limits based on the subscription tier a user is signed up for. This ranges from 90 minutes per meeting for Basic Workspace and Google AI Pro plans up to 8 hours for AI Expanded, Ultra Access, and Google AI Ultra plans.

In addition, conference rooms with Google Meet hardware can also listen to translated speech from remote participants, although room-originated audio is not translated externally. The function won’t are during live streams, recordings, client-side encrypted meetings, dial-in calls, third-party interoperability calls, or when using adaptive audio, and will be subject to regional and age restrictions.
