Here’s Canadian pricing for Google’s new Fitbit Edge tracker

Google took the wraps off their newest Fitbit tracker, the Fitbit Edge, on October 12th. The new tracker occupies a middle ground between the company’s Pixel Watch smartwatch and the recently released Fitbit Air screenless tracker. It was like a spiritual successor to the Fitbit Charge line to me.

The Fitbit Edge sports a small, always-on AMOLED color display powered by an Ambiq AP5 chip in a slim 39.22 x 25.26 x 11.58mm body with a light 17.7g without band.

The tracker has a 65mAh rechargeable battery that Google says can last up to two days with the always-on display, or up to seven days without. Further, Google says that five minutes of charging will get you about a day of battery life.

Interestingly, Google says this is the first “repairable” Fitbit with a replaceable battery, but I’ll leave judgment on that to the folks at iFixit.

Google says the Fitbit Edge offers 40 percent more accurate route tracking than the Fitbit Charge 6 thanks to built-in GPS and a new chipset. It also sports the Fitbit health tracking features you’ve come to expect, including an altimeter, ECG, skin temperature sensor, SpO2 and heart rate.

On the software side, the Fitbit Edge runs Fitbit OS and offers several fancy watch faces with customizable complications to display various health metrics. Plus, you can see helpful information right on your wrist, such as turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps, phone notifications, and more. You can also control music from Edge.

For the fitness geeks, Fitbit Edge offers the typical suite. There’s Google Health Coach, a Gemini-powered AI coach that can provide guidance and tips through the Google Health app. Edge can also share real-time guidance during workouts, such as suggesting when to push harder or ease up.

Google Health Premium subscribers can also see patterns and changes in metrics like blood pressure and insulin resistance through Health Guardian. And there is also sleep and menstrual tracking.

Finally, this brings us to the price. The Fitbit Edge comes in at $229 in Canada, which is a bit more than the Fitbit Charge used to cost, but still significantly less than the $550 starting price of the Pixel Watch 5. But of course, stay tuned for my full review of the Fitbit Edge to get an idea of whether it’s worth the cost.
