Samsung plans to launch some new rugged devices soon. One of them could be the Galaxy XCover Scan, as a brand archive says. Now, a new leak claims that Samsung may add an RFID reader to the upcoming Galaxy XCover Scan. The folks over at SammyGuru have spotted a new phone on Geekbench that Samsung might be marketing as the Galaxy XCover Scan.
Samsung’s rumored Galaxy XCover Scan could be a rugged phone with an RFID reader
The alleged Galaxy XCover scan has appeared on Geekbench under the model number SM-G778B. The listing revealed that the phone packs the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-6690 processor. Qualcomm designed this chip to have an integrated UHF RFID reader. This feature allows commercial workers to scan warehouse products or open doors that have compatible smart locks.
This chip removes the requirement for external RFID modules, which reduces the computational cost and size of the design. Notably, thanks to the Dragonwing Q-6690 chip, the Galaxy XCover Scan or whatever Samsung calls it could have next-generation connectivity features. These features include 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and UWB, so the phone is connected to large facilities.
The Geekbench listing suggests mid-range performance
The Geekbench results of the alleged Galaxy XCover scan suggest mostly mid-range performance. The phone managed to achieve a single-core score of 1,069 and 3,142 in multi-thread testing on Geekbench 7. This suggests the speed is slightly higher than older processors such as the Snapdragon 778G + or the MediaTek Dimensity 7300.
The results also revealed that Samsung paired the phone’s chipset with 8GB of RAM on at least one version of it. In terms of launch time, Samsung was able to launch the phone alongside the rugged Galaxy Tab Active 6 tablet. We’ll know more in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
