Sony shrinks glasses free 3D in a mini screen

Setting up a little three-dimensional anime figure right next to your keyboard is about to get a lot easier for desktop setup fans. Sony just announced the ELF-MN1, a compact six-inch display that projects true 3D avatars without forcing you to wear clunky VR headsets or bulky glasses. Plugging this mini screen into your phone or PC turns flat digital models into 3D companions that respond naturally as you move around your desk.

Sony’s ELF-MN1 packs a sharp six-inch panel with a 403 ppi pixel density. A built-in infrared sensor tracks your eyes in real time to draw 3D perspectives instantly when you move your head. This custom tracking setup keeps stereoscopic depth crisp while preventing double images from ruining the visual experience.

Eye tracking hardware and viewing angles

Viewing angles work best when you sit between 12 and 31 inches away from the screen, making it a natural fit for personal workstations. Because the infrared camera is locked onto one pair of eyes at a time, only one person gets the true 3D view at any time. Anyone standing next to your desk will simply see a flat, distorted image while you enjoy the full depth effect.

Connecting the display is easy because it runs from a single USB-C cable with DisplayPort Alt Mode support. Official product details from Sony show that you can match the screen with modern smartphones such as the iPhone 15, Galaxy S23 or Pixel 10. Desktop users need a mid-range PC with at least an Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics card and 16 GB of RAM to output 4K video at 60 frames per second.

Personal desk setups and release plans

The screen is specially built for digital figures and 3D media, including Gugenka’s popular HoloModel anime avatar. Weighing only 350 grams, this lightweight display fits neatly next to a laptop or main monitor without cluttering up your workspace. Integrated one-watt stereo speakers also provide basic sound so your digital figures can interact right on your desk.

Sony plans to launch the ELF-MN1 in Japan on December 11, 2026, for around ¥54,000, which translates to around $340. Early hands-on demos will hit Sony stores in Ginza and Nagoya starting November 20, 2026. Bringing spatial reality technology down to a desk-friendly size could finally make glasses-free 3D displays a fun accessory for tech fans everywhere.
