Two weeks ago, Omdia released a smartphone market report for Q3 2026. In it, the company talked about the market in general, and the market share shared by the top 5 companies.
Well, the company is now back with another report, and while this one is also focused on the smartphone market for Q3 2026, it talks about global smartphone shipments rather than the companies’ market share.
Global smartphone shipments fell by 20% in Q3 2026
Omdia reiterated that global smartphone shipments fell by 20%, and that this is the lowest third quarter total since 2013. With that in mind, global smartphone shipments reached 254.7 million units in Q3 2026, which is 20% less than a year ago.
Rising smartphone prices are the reason why, and this is caused by the high memory chip prices that continue to rise, and overall component prices that have increased a lot.
Samsung is still the number one smartphone manufacturer. The company managed to ship 57.8 million smartphones in Q3 2026, which is a 5% decline YoY. The company now holds 23% of the market, which is a 4% increase YoY.
Apple is the only company that did not deliver fewer phones than last year
Apple is a close second with 56.5 million smartphones shipped in Q3 2026, which is the same number the company shipped a year ago. Apple holds 22% of the market, and it managed to increase its market share by 4%.
Xiaomi is third with 30.7 million phones shipped, which is a significant drop of 29% compared to a year ago. It now holds 12% of the market, which is a drop of 2% compared to a year ago.
OPPO is in third place with 23.4 million phones shipped, which is a 39% decline YoY. The company holds 9% of the market, which is a decline of 3% compared to Q3 2025.
Vivo rounds out the top 5 list with 19.3 million phones shipped; this is 33% less than a year ago. The company holds 8% of the market, which is 1% less than a year ago.
The top 5 companies hold 74% of the market
All the other companies managed to ship 67 million phones in Q3 2026; this is a drop of 28% compared to a year ago. That leaves 26% market share for all the other companies that are not in the top 5, and that is 3% less than a year ago.
So, as you can see, only Apple’s shipments did not decrease, while Samsung saw a small drop. Everyone else suffered quite a lot compared to a year ago.
