This app gives you full manual control of unlocking the iPhone 18 Pro

Halide 3.2 gives iPhone 18 Pro owners significantly more control over the phone’s new variable aperture camera, letting photographers manually choose from the full range of the lens rather than being limited to Apple’s built-in settings.

The latest update to the award-winning camera app adds dedicated support for the iPhone 18 Pro, including two new ways to control its aperture. Apple’s own Camera app offers four stops between ƒ/1.48 and ƒ/4.0, while Halide lets you choose any ƒ stop in the camera’s entire range.

The first option is Aperture Priority, where you select the aperture and Halide takes care of the shutter speed and ISO to keep the exposure balanced. If you want to take things further, Manual mode gives you control over all three settings, including ISO, which isn’t available as a manual adjustment in Apple’s Camera app.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture can deliver about 50% better low-light performance, while giving photographers more control over depth of field. Halide’s expanded controls essentially allow users to do more with that hardware rather than leaving exposure choices up to the stock camera app.

Halide says it may also add dedicated f-stop presets in a future update, depending on what users request.

There’s more to Halide 3.2 than aperture controls. The update adds two new film simulations, Dawn and Quicksilver, for photographers who want to change the look of their shots without editing them afterwards. Dawn brings warmer midtones and highlights with softer shadows and cooler complementary colors, while Quicksilver uses high contrast and muted colors to create a look somewhere between color photography and stark black and white.

The update also adds a 16:9 shooting mode, which gives users a wider frame when the standard aspect ratios don’t quite fit.

Halide 3.2 is available via the App Store. It costs $69.99 as a one-time purchase, or $19.99 for an annual subscription, giving iPhone 18 Pro owners another option if Apple’s more limited unlock controls aren’t enough.
