Twelve South introduces Airfly Drive, making wireless CarPlay and Android Auto wireless.

From the makers of Airfly, a plug-in adapter that makes factory-wired CarPlay or Android Auto completely wireless, with no app, no charging, and no new car required.

Twelve South today introduces Airfly Drive, a compact adapter that upgrades a car’s existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto to a fully wireless connection. Plug it into the car’s USB port, pair up to two phones at once, and CarPlay or Android Auto will start automatically every time the car turns on, with the phone still in the cup holder, a pocket or a bag. The cable is free to charge when needed, rather than every time needed.

Millions of drivers own a car with CarPlay or Android Auto built in but no wireless option, either because the car had it before or because the wireless upgrade was part of a package they didn’t buy. Airfly Drive closes this gap for £39.99. It works with the screen, buttons, knobs, and steering wheel controls that the driver already knows.

The idea is not new to Twelve South. Airfly was built for one narrow problem: wireless headphones and the wired headphone jacks that still bolt into airplane seats, gyms, and older cars. Airfly Drive applies the same thinking to a car. Same problem, same fix: a small adapter ends up plugging and unplugging, which drains all drives.

Hello Ian,

Just sharing details of a brand new launch from Twelve South, which will upgrade a car’s existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto to a fully wireless connection for just £39.99, rather than an expensive in-car upgrade.

I have included a press release with full details below. I was wondering if you wanted to cover it?

I can also arrange samples, I just need to know the make and model of the vehicle(s) you intend to use it in so I can check that it is compatible.

It’s live on Twelve South now, but will launch on Amazon next week.

LONDON, UK., October 1, 2026 – Twelve South today introduces Airfly Drive, a compact adapter that upgrades a car’s existing wired CarPlay or Android Auto to a fully wireless connection. Plug it in. Leave it in.

Airfly Drive requires no app, account or configuration. It draws power from the car’s USB port, so nothing needs to be charged. Pairing happens once. After that, the adapter connects automatically on the ignition, typically within seconds of starting the car.

A single button switches between two paired phones without re-pairing, allowing two drivers to share a car. An aluminum housing keeps the adapter small enough to be plugged in, replacing the cable that would otherwise run across the console.

Their cars too

A rental car is whatever the counter gives you: someone else’s settings, a cable in the console, and no way to change. Airfly Drive is small enough to travel in a bag, and it makes a rental car behave like the car at home. Plug it into the car’s USB port, pair once, and CarPlay or Android Auto will go wireless for the rest of the trip.

In which cars it works

Airfly Drive works with most vehicles that have factory-wired CarPlay or Android Auto, over more than 75 makes and model years back to 2014. It fits both USB-A and USB-C ports, and the box contains a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

You can find a searchable vehicle compatibility list at twelvesouth.com. Airfly Drive receives compatibility updates over time as new phones and vehicle software ships. It is not compatible with AUX-only vehicles; Airfly serves these drivers.
