The Android 17 QPR2 update could be just around the corner according to some theories thrown around by Android users on Reddit. Google’s QPR updates, otherwise known as quarterly updates sent to the company’s Pixel devices, are sent every few months. For example, the last quarterly update was Android 17 QPR1, and Google rolled that out to compatible Pixel devices back on September 15 alongside the last Pixel drop at the time. Before that was the stable Android 17 update in June, and before that was the quarterly update with a pixel drop for Android 16 in March.
The next quarterly update, which will be Android 17 QPR2, is expected to drop for Pixel owners sometime in December. This follows Google’s typical quarterly release schedule for these types of software updates. And in between it pushes out the smaller security updates every month. Sometimes these updates include a tweak or two to the features. But for the most part it’s about stability and bug/security fixes. Some users think that Google is preparing an early drop of the new QPR update.
Google is suspected of preparing an early push of the Android 17 QPR2 update
Android security updates generally fall on the first Tuesday of the month, as reported by Android Authority. However, if that was always the case, then Pixel owners would have pushed an update to their devices just a few days ago. That didn’t happen, leading to speculation on the Pixel subreddit that Google is instead ready to roll out a different kind of update.
According to this user, Google has held off on the monthly security update to instead push out the Android 17 QPR2 update early. Moving it forward from its December rollout to this month. The evidence for this theory revolves around a few things. First, the user points out that some of the fixes are accompanied by a “17-qpr2-next:2026-11-01” tag. It is also pointed out that the November update includes quite a few fixes and driver tweaks that are specific to Pixel devices. Still, there is no guarantee that Google will push the Android 17 QPR2 update early, but the evidence is compelling.
