Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 are getting unusually hefty October 2026 security updates

Samsung is now pushing the October 2026 Android security update to its new foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

The update has started rolling out in South Korea, the company’s home country. However, it will soon spread to other markets, as is usually the case with these updates. It only takes days for that to happen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 are getting a hefty October 2026 update, but we’re still in the dark

Unfortunately, we still don’t know how many security fixes Samsung has fixed with this update. The company just hasn’t shared the information yet. What we do know is that this is a pretty hefty update.

The update for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, for example, weighs 5,298.47MB in South Korea, and it brings firmware version F976NKSS3AZIJ to the device. The updates for the other two phones are similar in size.

We’re not sure why the update is so fierce, but there you go. It’s quite possible that it contains more than just security patches, as they certainly don’t require it to be that hefty.

Samsung will hopefully release more information in the coming days

We know that Samsung will release more information about the update itself in the coming days. The security patch details are sure to arrive soon, and we don’t want to know what exactly is in this update package in addition to these fixes.

With that in mind, your phone will notify you when the update is complete. However, you can manually check it yourself if you want. You can navigate to Settings -> Software Update -> Check for Updates, and possibly speed up the process a bit.

All three of these smartphones were announced with One UI 9 out of the box. They were the first phones to bring this Android 17-based skin from Samsung to users.
