Honor gave the world a first glimpse of its upcoming Magic9 Pro Max at the Venice Film Festival, which is rather fitting when the camera seems to be a priority here.
Honor has not yet revealed specific information for the new phone, but the first images that have been shared living room show a gigantic camera module containing three lenses and inscribed with the name Arri – a German company that has been making film cameras, lenses and other cinema-related equipment for over a century.
Arri’s ‘three-lens turret’ design from 1937 (seen on the left in the image below) is the inspiration behind the module on the Magic9 Pro Max, although presumably the technology used in the phone is a bit more current. Honor is yet to share specific details about the lenses or sensors.
The handset itself is quite iPhone-like, which is fitting given that Apple unveiled its new devices for 2026 and beyond just yesterday, and will be available in a rather wet ‘Moss Green’ colour. It’s a pretty significant departure from last year’s Honor Magic 8 Pro, which featured a large circular camera module on the back.
Honor and Arri first announced they were working together in March this year, with the slightly bonkers, China-only robot phone the first product of the collaboration. The Magic9 Pro Max is certainly a more mainstream offering, but we’re still excited to find out more about it ahead of its proper launch.
The full reveal is set to take place on September 28, and while it will initially only be available in China, Honor has promised us news of a UK launch in the future. Watch this space for more news as we get it.
