Samsung begins the global rollout of Android 17-based One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S23 series

After its initial launch in Korea, the Android 17-based One UI 9.0 update for the Galaxy S23 series has spread to global markets. Not all markets are getting it just yet, but the update is spreading as we speak.

Global rollout of One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S23 series has begun

As is usually the case, Europe was the first region to start receiving the update, after Korea. Beta users were in the first wave, but at this point it’s easy for everyone in Europe to get the update.

Note that the update is staged; however, so even if it rolls out in Europe, it may take some time to reach your device. Be patient. Your phone will notify you when the update is complete, but you can always check manually via Settings -> Software Update -> Download and Install.

The update size for beta users is 516.69MB, but it will be significantly larger for non-beta users. You can count on several gigabytes worth of data, so connecting to Wi-Fi might not be a bad move if you’re not on an unlimited data plan.

One UI 9.0 isn’t the most massive update Samsung has released in recent years, but it’s pretty significant. It brings a new version of Android along with it, not to mention some new features/functionality.

A more customizable Quick Panel is included, along with new accessibility options

A more customizable Quick Panel is part of the update, as you can basically change everything and tune it to your liking. Samsung has improved both Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes, and the same goes for accessibility options.

New AI features are also included in the update, as well as deeper Gemini integration. A location privacy indicator is also included, and more.

This update comes to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra. All three of these phones arrived in February 2023 with Android 13-based One UI 5.1. Considering Samsung has promised four major Android OS updates, this is probably the last one they’ll get. However, they should receive security updates for one more year.
