Huawei’s future sub-brand will get an English name, first two phones detailed

Last month, a report claimed that Huawei is preparing a new sub-brand called Xingmang, which translates to “Starlight” or “Starburst”. Shortly after, a tipster said that his first phone would be a widescreen candybar, but also warned that Starlight/Starburst was just a translation and might not end up as the actual name of the brand.

Now, two reliable leakers say that the English name will be Osta, and that is allegedly also what will be printed on the retail boxes. The brand is reportedly debuting two phones, the Osta O1 and the Osta O1 Pro, and the first wave of products is said to be positioned as a flagship level.

The Osta O1 will reportedly have a screen that is curved on all four sides and a large circular camera island on the back. The O1 Pro, on the other hand, is the wide one, with narrow bezels around it and a horizontal camera strip on the back. It is tipped to have a 6.39-inch 1.5K LTPS flat screen with a 16:9.5 aspect ratio, so it should look a lot like the Pura X View.

The O1 Pro is reportedly available in 12/256GB, 12/512GB, 16/512GB, and 16GB/1TB configurations. Its specs and pricing are said to be on par with Huawei’s flagships – which may have something to do with how expensive memory is these days. That’s quite a reversal from the earlier rumor that Starlight phones would be mid-rangers with Kirin 8-series chipsets. When asked if Huawei would abandon wide-screen phones from now on, one of the tipsters said that the form factor will also remain in the main brand line-up.
