Oppo could be preparing to take on Huawei’s unusual Pura X View with a new widescreen smartphone, and the latest leak suggests it could have some serious advantages in performance, cameras and battery life.
According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Oppo is working on a non-folding smartphone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9600M, apparently a revamped version of the Dimensity 9500.
The device is also tipped to have two 200MP rear cameras, with Samsung’s ISOCELL HPE and HP5 sensors, alongside a large 8,000mAh battery. If true, that would give Oppo a notable advantage over the Huawei Pura X View, which packs a 7,000mAh battery.
The display could be another interesting addition. Previous leaks suggest that Oppo will opt for a wider 16:9 aspect ratio, rather than the taller screens found on most modern smartphones.
A separate tipster claims that the device will have a 6.35-inch 1.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a third 50MP ultra-wide camera. The screen is also expected to have uniformly narrow bezels, while the phone itself could measure less than 85mm.
By comparison, Huawei’s Pura X View has a slightly larger 6.39-inch display and measures 144.1 x 87 x 6.7 mm. It also comes with the Huawei Kirin 9030S processor and a triple-camera setup.
On paper, Oppo’s rumored alternative may offer a larger battery, higher-resolution cameras and a slightly narrower body, although actual performance will depend on how the finished device performs.
The wider design is particularly interesting, as it could provide more space for watching videos, reading and multitasking without requiring a foldable screen. It’s an unusual approach at a time when most smartphone makers continue to favor taller, narrower displays.
Oppo hasn’t officially confirmed the device, which could launch as the Oppo Reno X, and there’s currently no word on pricing or availability. Still, if these specs hold up, Huawei’s Pura X View may soon have some serious competition in the growing widescreen smartphone category.
