Xbox launches pay-as-you-go cloud gaming hours for non-subscribers

In what can be considered one of the more interesting developments in recent XBOX history, Microsoft has announced that it is testing a new way to give players cloud gaming access without a Game Pass subscription, allowing Xbox insiders to buy dedicated cloud game time instead of signing up for the service.

That said, the preview is rolling out today with a wider public release planned for November, and will come with Cloud Playtime Packs as well as support for game streaming on compatible devices. Prices for the packs start at $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours, and $11.99 for 50 hours. The XBOX team adds that the playtime packs feature ad-free streaming, shorter wait times and high-quality video performance. It is also worth noting that hours do not expire until they are fully used.

Alongside the paid tiers, Xbox Insiders can also test out a free, ad-supported cloud gaming option as part of the preview. Availability, features, and pricing may vary by region, however. Users who are not yet part of the Insider program can join by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub app on an Xbox console or Windows PC.

Microsoft is one of the few remaining big names that continue to offer cloud gaming services, in addition to several smaller brands that complement their software on smart TVs and apps.
