Samsung launches clip-on Galaxy Buds that work on either ear

Samsung has released the new Galaxy Buds On headphones, its first clip-on Galaxy Buds. Although the earbuds are officially only in South Korea, I expect a global release to follow.

Samsung says the Galaxy Buds On lets you listen to what’s going on around you while listening to music or holding a conversation. Due to the design, it puts less strain on the ears during prolonged use. The company said it analyzed data from different ear shapes so it could optimize the position of the speakers and battery.

The Buds On also sports ‘TwinBoost speakers’ designed to provide better low-frequency performance, along with automatic volume control that adapts to the environment. There’s also an audio leakage reduction feature to prevent people from hearing what you’re listening to. And when you line up the ear buds, they don’t have a right or left side. The Buds On can automatically detect which side they are on and adjust the audio channels accordingly.

Specifically, the Buds On use the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 sound platform with a high-efficiency Class-D amplifier for up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge.

In addition to three microphones, the Buds On have a bone conduction-based vibration sensor that detects vibration when a person speaks and uses machine learning to separate the user’s voice and reduce background noise.

When you wear the Buds On and say “Hey Google, let’s talk live,” Gemini Live launches so you can talk to the AI in a natural conversation.

There are also head gestures to answer or end calls, dismiss alerts or read message notifications. On Galaxy devices, you can adjust the volume and balance by just going to your device’s settings instead of going to the Galaxy Wearable app.

The earbuds are priced at KRW₩299,000, which converts to about C$316.94, so when the Buds On come to Canada, expect them to be in the mid-$300 range.
